IIt is considered as one of the most important archaeological sites of Greece. Built in Hellenistic Years, Οccupies an area equal to 10 building blocks (700000 sq. meters) and has the characteristic shape of a very large rectangular square (200,15 x 181,76 m.) surrounded by galleries with shops in the background.
Here ceramic labs operated, candlesticks were manufactured and shops thrived where various products were marketed. Many of these sites were found full of commodities that their owners could not take with them at the time of the disaster. The central avenue of the city with a width of 15 m. traversed the market from east to west.
Products from the workshops of Pella, found in other cities of Macedonia and the southern Balkans, indicate how important the export center of the Macedonian capital was in the Hellenistic years. Only one folk sanctuary of Aphrodite and Cybele has been excavated, north of the market, and Thesmophorion, a sanctuary of Dimitra with a peculiar circular plan, where women performed various events related to the fertility of earth and the goodyear.
